so, I’ve been wanting to work on this guy for a while now, but it’s always a 5 mins thing then I gave up due to lack of reference images.

Anyhow, I made the effort to search for about 30 reference images and started on him.  So far I’m satisfied with the main form, but the pore

pass needs a bit more work.  Here’s some wips …

mmm as much as I’m excited, I still don’t think I have enough time, but I will keep working until the last moment to see if I can get this in. If not I will be finishing this one as well, having a lot of fun doing the hard surface stuff in maya!

So this is the new rendition of devilman ( yah it’s been reworked many many times…)  It was a little late when I received the invitation to submit to ballistic so I decided to pull out something that is already done and refine it.  I ended up retopologizing the model and changed the wings a bit for a more realistic approach. It was finished in maya and rendered with SSS shader.  It took a while to figure out the SSS shader for me because my model scale was way too big and it was rendering properly… anyhow! here is the final image!

I am not exactly satisfied with the black smoke now that I look at it … I think it could be a bit more transparent and “magical” looking, but it’s too late now.  I’m glad that it’s not too much of a distraction for the focus (devilman’s main body of course..)

haven’t been doing much on the comicon because I’ve been kept busy with an invitation to submit to the upcoming Ballistic Publishing book.  I hope I do okay and get entered into the book eventually!  Anyhow, dragged my butt to work more on the comicon entry right after submission today … not much done but had fun doing some of the hard surface stuff in this update here!

in case it’s hard to tell, I added the straps and buckles to the side of the thighs in the second image, and a close up shot of the belt.  I am not sure if I can complete everything in time, it’s been a busy month.. nonetheless, I will finish this piece for sure because I’m actually enjoying it a lot!  Good luck to me in finishing this haha XD
